Animal Health Laboratories is a Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory situated in West Cork. Our large client base extends to both farmers and Vet Practices throughout Ireland. We offer an extensive, professional range of laboratory services to large animal and equine vets, various discussion groups, industry and farmers. We offer advice on disease testing and herd health issues, and we also offer training courses for vets. We are a Department of Agriculture approved laboratory for carrying out CEM testing

We are situated in the former SWS building on the main Bandon to Dunmanway road. We have state of the art laboratory facilities and can handle large numbers of samples on a daily basis.

Quality Control

It is the policy of Animal Health Laboratories to continuously improve the quality of our testing facilities and the service we offer to our customers. We are accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board to carry out BVD and Johnes testing in compliance with ISO 17025. Full details of our testing scope may be found on the INAB website.

Our quality manager is responsible for maintaining our quality management system and for coordinating audits throughout the year. The quality manager works with the technical manager to organise regular tests of our quality system through a scheme of inter- and intralaboratory comparisons. The technical manager is also responsible for introducing and validating new tests before offering them to the public.

Animal Health Laboratories take part in a number of External Proficiency Tests for all of our scope tests throughout the year. All lab staff must take part in these EPTs. An EPT consists of a number of ‘blind’ samples which are sent to the lab by an ISO17043- accredited proficiency testing provider. Animal Health Labs test these samples as normal, and send the results back to the provider. In this way, the performance of Animal Health Laboratories can be compared with veterinary testing labs in Ireland, the UK, and Europe.

On our website you will find details of the range of services we provide together with an FAQ section to answer the most commonly asked questions and provide advice on such issues as sample taking.

You may also download submission forms to accompany samples to the lab.

We have an online reporting system so that you now have the convenience of an email notification, linking to an online confidential report of your test results available via your own private log in to our system.
